Speaker, Yoga Instructor,... Certified Personal Trainer? Hell Yeah!!!
January 1, 2018
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Things are really coming together for me as a yoga instructor. Two years after becoming certified, I'm teaching and inspiring all over Northern Virginia for several companies in the health and wellness industry. Recently, I've found myself being led toward getting my personal training certification.
At first, I was just happy with just teaching yoga; but then, I began to look back on my life, and in doing so, I realized a few things:
1. From the first time I picked up a Muscle & Fitness Magazine at 12 or 13 years old, from working the front desk at gyms and health clubs at various points in my life, I have always had a connection with the health and fitness industry.
2. I have always been fascinated with how the human body works, in particular anatomy. When I was in the 6th grade, it only took me three days to memorize all 206 bones of the human body (and I still remember them all). Combined that with all that I know about nutrition, and getting my personal training cert should be a walk in the park.
3. Most certifying organizations have a home study, "go at your pace" type curriculum, with a year to complete everything and test out, as well as affordable payment plans.
4. In the Washington, DC area, there is a HUGE demand for personal trainers. Opportunities are virtually limitless; so much so that, with that, teaching yoga and speaking, my path to finally exiting the Rat Race has never looked clearer.
All of the above are valid reasons for why I should get certified as a personal trainer, but what has really inspired me to take that next step happened a few weeks ago.
I stepped in to sub a yoga class at the Fairfax 24 Hour Fitness (the 2nd of 4 yoga classes I taught that day). As soon as I walked through the doors, something powerful came over me. Seeing people on the treadmills, bikes, clanging and banging in the weight room, I experienced something metaphysical. It was light a jolt of adrenaline surged in my heart and gut, and filled with a tremendous sense of happiness. It felt amazing, and as far as I'm concerned, it was a sign from the Universe that getting certified as a personal trainer is the next logical step in my speaking, health and wellness evolution.
Well, no sooner than I decided to get my personal training certification, the Universe sent sent me another blessing showing me that it was the right decision. I happened to mention my plan to the Vice President of Operations of one of the corporate wellness companies that I teach yoga for. She tells me that her company has a partnership with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), the most recognized personal training entity in the country. As a result of this partnership, not only was I able to get a whopping 40 discount on two of its certification packages (NASM-CPT and CES, Corrective Exercise Specialization), which will save me over $1,000, but I did so with no money down and no payments until February! Now, if that's not a sign from the Universe, I don't know what is.
Here's to 2018 being an EPIC year for speaker, teaching, training and inspiring.
